وقبلت صبح الفرق في ظلمة الشعر
I rose toward her while night was in dawn's grasp,

And kissed the dawn of her hair's parting amid the darkness of her hair.
And kissed the morn that cleft the locks' darkness

حصلت على شيءٍ ألذ من الخمر
And I said, as reproach lingered long upon her dusky lips:
And said, when blame on the loved one grew long,
"I have gained something more delightful than wine."
"I've gained a thing more sweet than any wine!"

And I became certain, when my tears tamed her defiance,
And when my tears' wings folded at her will
That the eye's tears are the prelude to enchantment.
I knew tears' outflow is enchantment's key
