1. ما بعد بعدك للنهار وضوحٌ

    For a cupbearer to make his rounds or a morning draught to taste sweet.

  2. وسوى ادّكارك لا سمير لوالهٍ

    Or is protecting wayfarers from the Nusay-

    ris a clear offense for governors?

    واللَه ما هذا الفتوح فتوح

    Al-Nadim opened his rule for us with your dismissal;

    And by God, this opening is no triumph.

    لفراق راشد فالقلوب تنوح

    If the people's eyes do not all lament

    At parting from Rashid, their hearts lament.
