The lover’s soul has journeyed by night with the loved ones,

The spirit of the lover flowed with the beloved

when they left Lalut, the jewel among the villages.

When they left the meadows and middle of the villages

وغدا يهيم تألماً لفراقهم

وغدا يهيم تألماً لفراقهم

ويئن مشتاقاً وقد هجر الكرى

ويئن مشتاقاً وقد هجر الكرى

And he now wanders distraught, aching at parting from them,

And tomorrow he wanders pained by their absence

and groans with longing, having forsaken sleep.

And he moans longing, though he deserted the meadows

هل يا أحبة في حصول لقائكم

هل يا أحبة في حصول لقائكم

أمل قريب أم تحللت العرى

أمل قريب أم تحللت العرى

O loved ones, is a meeting with you

Is there, O beloved, in your union

a hope close at hand, or have the bonds come undone?

Hope soon, or have the ties been untied?

لا لا فاني في اعتصام زائد

لا لا فاني في اعتصام زائد

بحبال ودكم الخلي من المرا

بحبال ودكم الخلي من المرا

No, no! For I cling ever more firmly

No, no, for I am in increased devotion

to the cords of your affection, free from dispute.

To the ropes of your love, devoid of bitterness

I offer peace with greetings, so long as there falls

I send greetings and regards, however preoccupied

rain, and the lion of al-Sharā yearns for its mate.

A pouring rain, not a vicious lion of evil
