The command is yours, and hospitality is within your domain.

The command is your command, and the people are your people,

الليل أشرف والغزالة ودعت

الليل أشرف والغزالة ودعت

وغدا العشا متأخراً حاشاكا

وغدا العشا متأخراً حاشاكا

Night drew near, and the gazelle—the sun—bade farewell.

The night is most noble, and the gazelle bid farewell,

And supper grew late—far be it from you!

And tomorrow the love gathering comes late, apart from you,

شطر الطريق قطعت قاصدكم وقد

شطر الطريق قطعت قاصدكم وقد

عادت بي الاقدار من مولاكا

عادت بي الاقدار من مولاكا

I had covered half the road, heading toward you, when

Half the road I traveled, intending to reach you, and

Fate from your Lord turned me back.

Destiny has returned me from whence I began,

فاعذر أخا بالشعر أبدى عذره

فاعذر أخا بالشعر أبدى عذره

واقبل كتابا بالمودة جاكا

واقبل كتابا بالمودة جاكا

So forgive a brother who offered his excuse in verse.

So pardon, my brother, the poet who shows his excuse in verse,

And accept a letter that came to you with affection.

And accept a book with affection coming to you,

والصبح خير ان طلبت زيارة

والصبح خير ان طلبت زيارة

نعم الصباح به الحبيب أتاكا

نعم الصباح به الحبيب أتاكا

Morning is better if you wish for a visit.

And morning is best if you seek a visit,

How fine the morning in which the beloved comes to you!

How excellent is the morning in which the beloved comes to you.
