فغدت رياض العلم مزهرة فيا

طرب الفنون ويا سرور الطالب

So the gardens of learning blossomed—O

Joy of the arts, and O delight of the student!

هذي مدارس جددت يسمو بها

لسما المعارف كل شهم راغب

These schools have been renewed; through them ascends

To learning's sky every noble, eager soul.

سعد السعود مخيم ببروجها

يحيي طريقة جابر والراسي

Sa'd al-Su'ud is encamped in their towers,

Reviving the way of Jabir and al-Rasi.

بجبينها قلم الحقيقة راسمٌ

نيل السعادة حاصل لمواضب

On their brow the pen of truth inscribes:

Happiness is attained by the persevering.

انظر يمينك داخلا طوداً له

باع لكشف غوامض ابن الحاجب

Look to your right as you enter: a mountain with

The mastery to uncover Ibn al-Hajib's obscurities.

وحد وحدث قس به وانظم على

سلك البيان مجوهرات الصاحب

Affirm God's oneness, relate traditions, take him as your measure, and string upon

The thread of eloquence the jewels of al-Sahib.

واصرف عنايتك التي أوتيتها

لبديع انشاء الامام الراغب

And devote the attention you have been granted

To the wondrous prose of Imam al-Raghib.

وافقه أصول مقاله وافصح بما

يلقيه من لغة بنطق صائب

And grasp the principles of his discourse, and give clear voice to what

He imparts of language, with sound pronunciation.

واتل الكتاب مدبراً آياته

ان رمت مغفرة الاله الواهب

And recite the Book, pondering its verses,

If you seek forgiveness from God, the Bestower.

واجن الهدى برياض مكتبة بها

كتب برونية عماد الطالب

And gather guidance in the gardens of a library that holds

Baruni books, the student's mainstay.

لا تسأمن من التعلم واهجرن

آراء من جهلوا صفات الواجب

Never grow weary of learning, and forsake

The views of those ignorant of the Necessary Being's attributes.

واسأل نجاة مرغب ومجدد

ومعلم ومواصل والكاتب

And pray for the salvation of the encourager and renovator,

The teacher, the supporter, and the writer.

لله در نفوسة ورجالها

أهل الوفا أهل اللواء الغالب

How noble are Nafusa and its men,

Men of loyalty, bearers of the victorious banner!

فهم الكرام هم الرجال بلا مرا

فيهم أفاضل ملجأ للجائب

For they are the noble ones, the true men, beyond dispute;

Among them are eminent men, a refuge for the traveler.

هم غرة الجبل النفوسي نوره

هم عزه فاهجر مقال الغائب

They are the shining brow of the Nafusi Mountain, its light;

They are its glory, so shun the absent man's words.

قد عاضدونا في البناء وشيدوا

فغدا منارة مهتدٍ للذاهب

Indeed they supported us in building, and raised it high,

So it became a beacon of guidance for the wayfarer,

في ظل من نشر المعارف حاميا

لشعائر الدين القويم الثاقب

In the shade of him who spread learning, protecting

The rites of the upright, radiant faith:

سلطاننا عبد الحميد المنتحى

فخر الملوك حسام كل محارب

Our Sultan Abd al-Hamid, to whom men turn,

The pride of kings, the sword of every warrior.
