God is greatest! Truth prevailed and triumphed.

God is Great, truth has prevailed and been victorious

And good fortune and prosperity fulfilled what they had vowed.

And good fortune and prosperity have fulfilled what they promised

وألسن اليمن قد قالت مهنئة

وألسن اليمن قد قالت مهنئة

بشرى فوفد الهدى قد عاد مفتخرا

بشرى فوفد الهدى قد عاد مفتخرا

And the tongues of good fortune spoke in congratulation:

And the tongues of Yemen have spoken congratulations

Glad tidings, for the delegation of guidance has returned in pride!

Good tidings, so the guidance has returned proudly

وفد على نصرة الدين الحنيفي قد

وفد على نصرة الدين الحنيفي قد

لبى النداء فجاب البحر وابتدرا

لبى النداء فجاب البحر وابتدرا

A delegation, in support of the upright faith, had

A delegation has come to support the true religion

Answered the call, crossed the sea, and hastened forward.

Responding to the call, crossing the sea eagerly

وافوا مليك يحف النصر رايته

وافوا مليك يحف النصر رايته

والعدل راحته والفضل قد نشرا

والعدل راحته والفضل قد نشرا

They reached a king whose banner victory surrounds,

They came to a king whose banner is victory

And whose palm justice surrounds, while bounty has spread abroad.

And whose comfort is justice and whose generosity is spread

لينذروا قومهم اذ يرجعوا فيرى

لينذروا قومهم اذ يرجعوا فيرى

آنا فانا بهم بدر الرقي سرى

آنا فانا بهم بدر الرقي سرى

To warn their people when they returned, so it might be seen

To warn their people when they return, so they will see

How, moment by moment, the full moon of progress journeyed with them.

Glory, so we are with them, the full moon journeyed

أسرى نهاراً بهم فكان من أمرهم

أسرى نهاراً بهم فكان من أمرهم

ان شاهدوا العرش والكرسي والوزرا

ان شاهدوا العرش والكرسي والوزرا

It bore them on a journey by day, and it befell them

Journeying by day with them, so their matter was

That they beheld the throne, the seat, and the ministers.

That they witnessed the Throne, Chair and Ministers

من منبع الحق تحت الحجب قد شربوا

من منبع الحق تحت الحجب قد شربوا

فما رأوه يقين لا كلام مرا

فما رأوه يقين لا كلام مرا

From the fount of truth, beneath the veils, they drank.

From the source of truth beneath the veils they drank

So what they saw was certainty, not contentious talk.

What they saw with certainty, not mere talk

آيات كبرى عياناً ابصروا فغدا

آيات كبرى عياناً ابصروا فغدا

ذاك الفؤاد بذاك القول مؤتمرا

ذاك الفؤاد بذاك القول مؤتمرا

They beheld mighty signs firsthand; thus became

Great signs they saw plainly, so that heart

That heart obedient to that word.

Became convinced by that word, assembled

قد ألهموا الرشد بالتوفيق فانتظموا

قد ألهموا الرشد بالتوفيق فانتظموا

في سلك من قربوا قرب اجتبا وقرا

في سلك من قربوا قرب اجتبا وقرا

They were inspired with right guidance through divine favor, and took their place

They were inspired with righteousness through success, so they entered

In the ranks of those brought near through selection and hospitality.

The path of those brought near, brought near and visited

على بساط الرضا والانس صف لهم

على بساط الرضا والانس صف لهم

موائد المن ضاها نورها القمرا

موائد المن ضاها نورها القمرا

Upon the carpet of favor and fellowship were laid out for them

At the place of pleasure and intimacy, a rank for them

Tables of bounty whose radiance rivaled the moon.

Tables of bounty, their light rivaled by the moon

وخولوا رتباً أضحت تميزهم

وخولوا رتباً أضحت تميزهم

وبالمجيدي تحلوا والحديث جرى

وبالمجيدي تحلوا والحديث جرى

And they were granted ranks that came to distinguish them.

They were given ranks by which they are distinguished

And they adorned themselves with the Medjidie decoration, and conversation flowed.

And were adorned with the praiseworthy and discourse flowed

تشفعوا والامين الشهم وساطة

تشفعوا والامين الشهم وساطة

فخفوا وطأة الحكم الذي صدرا

فخفوا وطأة الحكم الذي صدرا

They interceded, with the gallant, trusted one mediating,

They interceded and the brave, noble intermediary

And so eased the weight of the sentence that had been issued.

So they were relieved of the harsh judgment that was issued

فنلت عفواً ونال الفخر محتبسا

فنلت عفواً ونال الفخر محتبسا

ذو العز عارف موسى اذ قضى وطرا

ذو العز عارف موسى اذ قضى وطرا

So I gained pardon, and a prisoner gained glory—

And were granted pardon, and pride was withheld

The honored Arif Musa, when he attained his wish.

The mighty, knowing Moses when he judged and hit

ذاك المقام المعلى لامزاح فيا

ذاك المقام المعلى لامزاح فيا

وفد الصلاح ايقظوا الشعب الذي فترا

وفد الصلاح ايقظوا الشعب الذي فترا

That is the exalted station—no jest! So, O

That lofty position is no joking matter, so

Delegation of righteousness, awaken the people who have grown languid!

Delegation of righteousness, awaken the people who were negligent

عاد البراق بكم يطوى الخضم ومن

عاد البراق بكم يطوى الخضم ومن

يرمي القسي سواكم بعد يا أمرا

يرمي القسي سواكم بعد يا أمرا

Buraq returned with you, folding up the vast sea; and who

The Buraq has returned with you, traversing the valleys, and who

Can shoot the bows but you henceforth, O emirs?

Would cast aside the stubborn but you, O people of authority

واذ قفلتم وحل البدر منزله

واذ قفلتم وحل البدر منزله

والشمس مشرقه هل للنجوم سرى

والشمس مشرقه هل للنجوم سرى

And when you returned and the full moon settled in its station,

And when you returned and the full moon took its place

And the sun was shining—could the stars journey by night?

And the sun its rising, do the stars have a path?

كلا ومن أضمر التشبيه قيل له

كلا ومن أضمر التشبيه قيل له

الصيف ضيعت فاصمت واستقم حذرا

الصيف ضيعت فاصمت واستقم حذرا

No! And whoever harbored the comparison was told:

No! And whoever concealed the metaphor was told:

“You squandered it in summer; be silent, and stay upright and wary.”

"Summer is lost, so be silent and walk cautiously"

بشرى سعدنا وسدنا والزمان صفا

بشرى سعدنا وسدنا والزمان صفا

درب التمدن في أقطارنا عبرا

درب التمدن في أقطارنا عبرا

Glad tidings! We prospered and held sway, and the times grew serene.

Good tidings, our joy and our pillar, and time is clear

The road of civilization passed through our lands,

The path of civilization in our lands has crossed over

بهمة العدل والينا ومرشدنا

بهمة العدل والينا ومرشدنا

محمد حافظ باشا الذي شهرا

محمد حافظ باشا الذي شهرا

Through the resolve of the just one, our governor and guide,

With the zeal of justice, ease, and our guide

Muhammad Hafiz Pasha, who became renowned,

Muhammad Pasha, who glorified it

وهمة الشهم ذاك المجتبي رجب

وهمة الشهم ذاك المجتبي رجب

باشا المشير الذي في نصحنا سهرا

باشا المشير الذي في نصحنا سهرا

And the resolve of the gallant man, that chosen one, Rajab

And the zeal of the brave, the chosen Rijab

Pasha, the marshal, who kept vigil in counseling us.

Pasha the counselor, who stayed up advising us

عناية الله حفتنا فوفقنا

عناية الله حفتنا فوفقنا

لمرتضى من على نهج الفلاح جرى

لمرتضى من على نهج الفلاح جرى

God's care encompassed us, and we were granted success

The care of God protected us, so He granted us success

In what pleased him who trod the path of success:

For the desired path of prosperity

ظل الإله نصير الدين حافظه

ظل الإله نصير الدين حافظه

أميرنا معشر الإسلام مذ ظهرا

أميرنا معشر الإسلام مذ ظهرا

The shadow of God, the faith's champion and its guardian,

The shadow of God, helper of the religion, preserving it

Our emir, O people of Islam, ever since he appeared,

Is our Prince, the Muslim people since appearing

حامي الخلافة قطب العرش ضيغمه

حامي الخلافة قطب العرش ضيغمه

مزن غدا صوبه بالأمن منهمرا

مزن غدا صوبه بالأمن منهمرا

The caliphate's protector, the throne's axis and its lion,

Guardian of the Caliphate, pillar of the throne, its pole

Rain clouds whose downpour came streaming with security—

Made glorious by security overflowing to it

عبد الحميد الذي سارت بحكمته

عبد الحميد الذي سارت بحكمته

نجائب الحمد وانقادت له السفرا

نجائب الحمد وانقادت له السفرا

Abd al-Hamid, through whose wisdom journeyed

Abdul Hamid, who by his wisdom

The noble camels of praise, and to whom the envoys submitted.

Tributes of praise flowed, and journeys submitted to him

فدم لك الظفر سيف الله مبتهجا

فدم لك الظفر سيف الله مبتهجا

يحمي علاك الهدى ما جندنا نصرا

يحمي علاك الهدى ما جندنا نصرا

So live on in joy, O sword of God; victory is yours.

So victory is yours, O sword of God, rejoicing

May guidance guard your glory as long as our army is granted victory.

Protecting your ascent, guidance, as long as our soldiers grant victory
