Whenever the wind comes to us from the direction of his land,

It brings him to us, perfumed with his fragrance, and its blowing becomes sweet.

It brings us an enduring fragrance of musk and ambergris,

And the scent of lavender, visited at dawn by its south wind.

I yearn for his memory whenever I remember him,

And tears pour down, their streams overflowing—

The yearning of a captive far from home whose fetter has been tightened,

And the wailing of a soul whose beloved has gone away from her.
