لِأَنوارِ نورِ اللَه في القَلب أَنوارُ

لِأَنوارِ نورِ اللَه في القَلب أَنوارُ

وَللسرّ في سرّ المُحبّين أَسرارُ

وَللسرّ في سرّ المُحبّين أَسرارُ

The radiances of God's light have radiances within the heart;

The lights of the light of God in the heart are lights,

And the secret has secrets within the lovers' secret.

And the secret in the secret of the lovers are secrets.

وَلمّا حَضَرنا للشّرابِ بِمجلسٍ

وَلمّا حَضَرنا للشّرابِ بِمجلسٍ

وَخفّ مِن عالم الغَيب أَسرارُ

وَخفّ مِن عالم الغَيب أَسرارُ

And when we came to a gathering for drink,

And when we arrived for the drink in a gathering,

And secrets hastened from the world of the unseen,

And the mysteries of the unseen world became hidden.

وَدارَت عَلَينا لِلمَعارف قَهوة

وَدارَت عَلَينا لِلمَعارف قَهوة

يَطوفُ بِها مِن جَوهرِ العَقلِ خمارُ

يَطوفُ بِها مِن جَوهرِ العَقلِ خمارُ

And a wine of spiritual knowledge circled among us,

And there circulated amongst us, for wisdom, coffee,

A wine-seller from the substance of the intellect went round with it.

With which circulates the fervor of reason.

فَلَمّا شَرِبناها بإِقراه فمها

فَلَمّا شَرِبناها بإِقراه فمها

أَضاءَ لَنا مِنها شُموس وَأَقمارُ

أَضاءَ لَنا مِنها شُموس وَأَقمارُ

Then, when we drank it [unclear wording: 'with his ... its mouth'],

So when we drank it, kissing its cup,

From it, suns and moons shone for us.

It illuminated for us suns and moons.

وَكاشَفنا حَتّى رَأَيناهُ جَهرَةً

وَكاشَفنا حَتّى رَأَيناهُ جَهرَةً

بِأَبصار صِدقٍ لا يُواريهِ أَستارُ

بِأَبصار صِدقٍ لا يُواريهِ أَستارُ

And he revealed himself to us until we saw him openly,

And we uncovered until we saw Him openly,

With eyes of truth; no veils conceal him.

With sights of truth that no veils can conceal.

وَخالَفنا في سكرِنا عِندَ نَحونا

وَخالَفنا في سكرِنا عِندَ نَحونا

قَديمٌ عَليمٌ دائمُ العَفوِ جَبّارُ

قَديمٌ عَليمٌ دائمُ العَفوِ جَبّارُ

And in our drunkenness, as we turned, we were opposed by

And we differed in our intoxication when we inclined,

The Eternal, All-Knowing, ever-forgiving Almighty.

Ancient, All-Knowing, Ever-Forgiving, Almighty.

سَجَدنا سُجوداً حينَ قالَ تَمَتّعوا

سَجَدنا سُجوداً حينَ قالَ تَمَتّعوا

بِرُؤيَتنا إِنّي أَنا لَكُم جارُ

بِرُؤيَتنا إِنّي أَنا لَكُم جارُ

We prostrated ourselves in prostration when he said, ‘Take delight

We prostrated in prostration when He said "Delight

In beholding us; indeed, I myself am your neighbor.’

In seeing Us, I am for you all a Neighbor."
