جنتيmy paradise كوخٌa cottage وصحراءٌand a desert ووردُand roses
وحبيبand a beloved هوhe ليto me ربٌa lord وعبدُand a slave
My paradise is a hut, a desert, and roses,
My paradise is a cottage, a desert, and roses,
and my beloved is to me both lord and servant;
And a beloved who is both lord and slave to me,
وصباحٌand a morning شاعريٌpoetic حالمٌdreamy
أتغنَىI sing فيهin it بالحبof love وأشدوand sing melodiously
and a dreamy, poetic morning
And a dreamy, poetic morning
where I sing of love and lift my voice.
In which I sing of love and pour out song.
وأردُّand I ward off القيدَthe shackle عنfrom حريتيmy freedom
كاذبٌa liar منwhoever قالsaid أنthat الحبlove قيدُa shackle
I keep the fetter far from my freedom—
And I ward off shackles from my freedom;
whoever says that love is a fetter lies.
Whoever said that love is a shackle is a liar.
ياoh لعينيهfor his two eyes ، وياand oh ليfor me منهماbecause of them both
فيهماin them both دفءٌwarmth وإشراقٌand radiance وسعدُand joy
Oh, those eyes of his—and oh, what they do to me!
Oh, those eyes of his—and oh, what they do to me!
In them are warmth, radiance, and joy.
In them are warmth, radiance, and joy.
هاbehold هيit الصحراءthe desert ملكيmy possession ، وأناand I
وحبيبيand my beloved بالأمانيthrough dreams نستبدُّwe reign supreme
Here is the desert, my dominion; and I,
Behold, the desert is mine, and I
with my beloved, wield absolute sway through our wishes.
And my beloved reign supreme through dreams.
أجعلُI make الرملthe sand قصوراpalaces ، وأناand I
بذُراهاon their summits فيin جلالِthe majesty of الملكِkingship أبدوI appear
I make palaces of the sand, and I
I turn the sand into palaces, and I
upon their heights appear in royal splendor.
Appear on their summits in royal majesty.
وأرىand I see الصبارthe cactus أجلىthe brightest of زينتيmy adornments
فهوfor it ليfor me تاجٌa crown وخلخالand an anklet وعِقْدُand a necklace
I see the cactus as my most radiant ornament;
And I see the cactus as my brightest adornment:
it is my crown, anklet, and necklace.
For it is my crown, my anklet, and my necklace.
وأرىand I see القفرthe wasteland رياضاًgardens غضّةًlush
أناI فيهاin them ظبيةa gazelle تلهوfrolicking وتعدوand running
I see the barren waste as gardens fresh and green;
And I see the wasteland as lush gardens;
within them I am a gazelle, frolicking and bounding.
In them I am a gazelle, frolicking and running.
ياO حبيبيmy beloved ، هذهthese أحلامناour dreams
آهِah لوif only يَصدِقُwould prove true للأحلامِfor dreams وعدُa promise
My beloved, these are our dreams—
O my beloved, these are our dreams.
ah, if only a promise made to dreams would come true.
Ah, if only the promise of dreams would prove true!
