The crescent has appeared in the courtyard of faith.

And the breeze has perfumed the oasis of deep reflection.

And righteousness has roused its companions: 'Come forward!'

For the month has reached the pan of the scales.

Sha'ban has returned with an opportunity that may not come

With another return in the ages ahead.

A return that gathers a year's burden into a ledger,

Folded away like a memory free of forgetfulness.

A welcome return, O steps of deep reflection!

Oh, how lovely is the hour of forgiveness!

O human being, you are indeed toiling,

Toiling toward a Lord of great majesty.

Your breaths are the lifetime you have counted,

O speck of wonder that will draw near!

Striving is raised up, its least along with its greatest.

The pen overlooks neither windblown dust nor what passes away.

So if you have violated God's sanctuary with a flash

That ran wild in a mood and lay folded within a being,

Hasten to the Merciful One's pardon, for perhaps

In concealment lies arrogance born of Satan's desire.

    وَإنِ اعْتَصَمْــتَ الوَحْلَ أنتَ الجَانِي

    And free yourself from paths that have turned to mire;

And if you cling to the mire, you are the wrongdoer.

And if you are illumined by the gleam of a latent, inborn nature,

With insight, hoping for the heights in gardens,

Whiten your pages, which I have sent ahead,

Free of a breath that strayed far from the All-Merciful.

And guard the sanctuary for God, and mount the wave

Of determination to change, with unceasing persistence.

And praise be to God, who has lowered for us

The back of time, a mount for doing good.
