خِلالٌ كُلُّها عارٌ وَنَقصُ

ʿUrwa’s sons inherited from their father

The sons of Urwa inherited naught

Traits—every one a disgrace and a failing.

But defects, all, from their father,

تَفَرَّقَ ما تَجَمَّعَ فيهِ فيهِم

تَفَرَّقَ ما تَجَمَّعَ فيهِ فيهِم

فَبَغّاءٌ وَقَوّادٌ وَلُصُّ

فَبَغّاءٌ وَقَوّادٌ وَلُصُّ

What was gathered in him was scattered among them:

What was gathered in him scattered in them -

So one is a fornicator, one a pimp, and one a thief.

Pimps, knaves and thieves, one and all.
