Say to Majd al-Din, in whom generosity

was perfected: O you who pave the way for Islam!

You revive dead virtues and are the giver of food

in famine, the slayer of destitution.

You are the hopeful one's wealth, the orphans' refuge,

the protection of those seeking shelter and those oppressed.

The platters have reached us, traced to the nobility

of your forefathers, the generous kings.

They are filled and surrounded by

    the Sahib's generosity and hospitality.

Upon them are dishes, broad and spacious,

each dish among them like the courtyard of al-Salam.

There is nothing in them to fault, and your kindness

keeps clear of every fault and reproach.

Except that the boy beneath them walks

slowly—may God be the boy's helper!

So remain with pure springs of generosity, pouring forth

the rain of bounty, lavish in beneficence.
