يا روحَ كُلِّ اِجتِماعٍ

يا روحَ كُلِّ اِجتِماعٍ

وَأُنسَ كُلِّ نَديمِ

وَأُنسَ كُلِّ نَديمِ

O soul of every gathering,

O spirit of every gathering

and joy of every drinking companion,

And intimacy of every companion

إِسمَع فَما زِلتَ تُرجى

إِسمَع فَما زِلتَ تُرجى

لِكُلِّ أَمرٍ عَظيمِ

لِكُلِّ أَمرٍ عَظيمِ

hear—for you are still looked to

Listen, for you are still hoped for

for every great undertaking—

For every great matter

بِأَنَّنا قَد حَصَلنا

بِأَنَّنا قَد حَصَلنا

في دارِ حُرٍّ كَريمِ

في دارِ حُرٍّ كَريمِ

that we have already arrived

That we have attained

at the house of a noble, generous man.

In the abode of a noble freeman

وَعِندَنا كُلُّ شَيءٍ

وَعِندَنا كُلُّ شَيءٍ

إِلّا بَناتِ الكُرومِ

إِلّا بَناتِ الكُرومِ

And we have everything

And we have everything with us

except the daughters of the vines.

Except for maidens of vineyards

فَاِبعَث بِها مِن عُقارٍ

فَاِبعَث بِها مِن عُقارٍ

فيها جَلاءُ الهُمومِ

فيها جَلاءُ الهُمومِ

So send some of that wine,

So send them from a place

in which lies the dispelling of cares,

Where gloom is dispelled

مُضيئَةٍ كَسَجايا

مُضيئَةٍ كَسَجايا

كَ في الزَمانِ البَهيمِ

كَ في الزَمانِ البَهيمِ

radiant as the virtues

Radiant like torches

of yours in this dark age.

As in the prime days

نَظَلُّ في خَفضِ عَيشٍ

نَظَلُّ في خَفضِ عَيشٍ

في ظِلِّها وَنَعيمِ

في ظِلِّها وَنَعيمِ

We remain in a life of ease,

We rest in the shade of a life

in its shade and bliss,

In its shadow and bounty

عِندَ الرَشيدِ وَلَكِن

عِندَ الرَشيدِ وَلَكِن

في دَعوَةِ اِبنِ الحَكيمِ

في دَعوَةِ اِبنِ الحَكيمِ

at al-Rashid's, yet

With Al-Rashid, but

at Ibn al-Hakim's feast.
