Sol 6.1

  1. أَيا مَولايَ مَجدَ الدينِ يا مَن

    إِلَيهِ وَمنهُ بَثّي وَاِشتِكائي

    O my lord Majd al-Din, O you

    to whom I confide my grief, and of whom I complain:

  2. دَعَوتُكَ مُستَجيراً مِن زَماني

    بِجودِ يدَيكَ فَاِصغُ إِلى دُعائي

    I have called on you, seeking refuge from my times

    in the bounty of your hands; so listen to my plea.

  3. أَتَنساني وَأَنتَ كَفيلُ رِزقي

    وَعِندَكَ إِن مَرِضتُ شِفاءُ دائي

    Do you forget me, though you guarantee my sustenance,

    and with you, should I fall ill, lies the cure for my disease?

  4. وَرَأيُكَ عُدَّتي لِغَدي وَيومي

    وَذَخري في الشَدائِدِ وَالرَخاءِ

    And your counsel is my resource for tomorrow and today,

    and my reserve in hardship and prosperity.

  5. فَيا مَولايَ هَل حُدِّثتَ عَنّي

    بِأَنّي مِن مَلائِكَةِ السَماءِ

    So, my lord, have you been told about me

    that I am one of heaven's angels,

  6. وَأَنَّ وَظائِفَ التَسبيحِ قوتي

    وَما أَحيا عَليهِ مِنَ الدُعاءِ

    and that the observances of divine praise are my food,

    and prayer is what I live on,

  7. وَأَنّي قَد غَنيتُ عَنِ الطَعامِ ال

    لَذي هُوَ مِن ضَروراتِ البَقاءِ

    and that I no longer need food,

    which is among the necessities of survival?

  8. وَهَل في الناسِ لَو أَنصَفتَ خَلقٌ

    يَعيشُ كَما أَعيشُ مِنَ الهَواءِ

    And among men, if you were fair, is there anyone

    who lives, as I do, on air?

  9. فَلا في جُملَةِ الأَحرارِ أُدعى

    وَلا بَينَ العَبيدِ وَلا الإِماءِ

    So I am not counted among free men,

    nor among male slaves or female slaves.

  10. وَلا أُقصى كَما تُقصى الأَعادي

    وَلا أُدنى دُنُوَّ الأَولِياءِ

    Nor am I kept at a distance as enemies are,

    nor drawn near as friends are.

  11. فَلا يُجرونَ ذِكري في رُسومِ ال

    صِلاتِ وَلا دَساتيرِ العَطاءِ

    So they leave my name out of the regular

    grants, and out of the registers of bounty.

  12. فَلا في هَؤُلاءِ إِذا سَمَحتُم

    تَعُدُّني وَلا في هَوئلاءِ

    So, when you give generously, neither among these

    do you count me, nor among those.

  13. مَتى أَحكَمتُ لي فيكُم رَجاءً

    حَلَلتُم بِالإِياسِ عُرى رَجائي

    Whenever I make firm my hope in you,

    you undo with despair the bonds of my hope.

  14. أَلَم يَملَأ بَسيطَ الأَرضِ مَدحي

    وَأَقطارَ السَماءِ لَكُم دُعاءِ

    Has not my praise filled the breadth of the earth,

    and my prayers for you the reaches of heaven?

  15. أَلَم أَنظِم لَكُم دُرَرَ المَعاني

    أَلَم أَنسُج لَكُم حُلَلَ الثَناءِ

    Have I not strung for you pearls of meaning?

    Have I not woven for you robes of praise?

  16. وَهَل أَحَدٌ يَقومُ لَكُم مَقامي

    وَيُغني في مَديحِكُمُ غِناءِ

    And can anyone take my place in your service

    and do as much as I in praising you?

  17. مَتى تَجني يَدي ثَمَرَ إِمتِداحٍ

    سَقَيتُ غُروسَهُ ماءَ الوَلاءِ

    When will my hand reap the fruit of praise

    whose saplings I watered with the water of loyalty?

  18. وَلَولا خِسَّةُ الأَيّامِ كانَت

    تُباعُ عُلوقُ شِعري بِالغَلاءِ

    And were it not for the baseness of the times,

    the treasures of my verse would be sold at high prices.

  19. أَما لي فيكُمُ إِلّا عَناءٌ

    مُضافٌ لِلشَقاءِ إِلى غَناءِ

    Have I nothing from you but toil,

    added, to my misery, to my service,

  20. وَأَثقالٌ أَهُدُّ بِهِنَّ ظَهري

    لَقَد عَرَّضتُ نَفسي لِلبَلاءِ

    and burdens with which I break my back?

    Indeed, I have exposed myself to affliction.

  21. سَعيتُ إِلى الغِنى وَجَهَدتُ نَفسي

    فَلَم أَحصُل عَلى غَيرِ العَناءِ

    I strove for wealth and exhausted myself,

    yet gained nothing but toil.

  22. فَزالَت راحَةُ الفُقَراءِ عَنّي

    وَلَم أَظفَر بِعيشِ الأَغنِياءِ

    So the ease of the poor deserted me,

    and I did not attain the life of the rich.
