أَفحَمَني النَظمُ البَديعُ الَّذي

أَفحَمَني النَظمُ البَديعُ الَّذي

فاقَت عَلى الدُرِّ مَعانيهِ

فاقَت عَلى الدُرِّ مَعانيهِ

I was left speechless by the wondrous verse

Whose meanings surpass pearls.

شِعرٌ كَنُوّارِ أَقاحٍ نَدٍ

شِعرٌ كَنُوّارِ أَقاحٍ نَدٍ

مالَت مِنَ الطَلِّ حَواشيهِ

مالَت مِنَ الطَلِّ حَواشيهِ

Verse like dewy daisy blossoms,

Its fringes drooping beneath the dew.

كَالماءِ أَلفاظاً وَلَكِنَّهُ

كَالماءِ أَلفاظاً وَلَكِنَّهُ

أَقوى مِنَ الصَخرِ قَوافيهِ

أَقوى مِنَ الصَخرِ قَوافيهِ

Like water in its wording, and yet

Its rhymes are stronger than rock.

فَبِتُّ ضِنّاً وَسُروراً بِهِ

فَبِتُّ ضِنّاً وَسُروراً بِهِ

أُظهِرُهُ طَوراً وَأُخفيهِ

أُظهِرُهُ طَوراً وَأُخفيهِ

So I spent the night, jealously cherishing it and rejoicing in it,

Now displaying it, now concealing it.

نَوَّهَ بِاِسمي فيهِ مَن لَم يَزَل

نَوَّهَ بِاِسمي فيهِ مَن لَم يَزَل

تَغمُرُني قِدماً أَياديهِ

تَغمُرُني قِدماً أَياديهِ

He extolled my name in it, he who has never ceased

To shower me with his favors since days of old.

عامِرُ نادي الفَضلِ لازالَ مَغ

عامِرُ نادي الفَضلِ لازالَ مَغ

موراً بِهِ الفَضلُ وَناديهِ

موراً بِهِ الفَضلُ وَناديهِ

He who enlivens the gathering of excellence—may

Excellence and its gathering ever be overwhelmed by him.
