قَدindeed كُنتُI used to أَكتُمُconceal ماwhat تُجِنُّharbors جَوانِحيmy breast
قَد كُنتُ أَكتُمُ ما تُجِنُّ جَوانِحي
حَذَرَfor fear of الوُشاةِthe talebearers عَليكِfor you وَالرُقَباءِand the watchers
حَذَرَ الوُشاةِ عَليكِ وَالرُقَباءِ
I had kept hidden what my breast harbored,
I concealed what my innermost being did to me
Fearing for you the talebearers and the watchers,
Fearing the slanderers' talk about you and the spies
حَتّىuntil أَعارَتنيlent me المُدامَةُwine نَشوَةًrapture
حَتّى أَعارَتني المُدامَةُ نَشوَةً
فَوَشَتand so disclosed بِحُبِّكِof love for you نَشوَةُthe rapture الصَهباءِtawny wine
فَوَشَت بِحُبِّكِ نَشوَةُ الصَهباءِ
Until wine lent me rapture,
Until intoxication lent me an intoxication
And the rapture of tawny wine betrayed my love for you.
And the intoxication of the blond wine told of my love for you
