كُلَّ يَومٍ لَكَ بَينٌ وَاِحتِمالٌ

كُلَّ يَومٍ لَكَ بَينٌ وَاِحتِمالٌ

وَبِعادٌ عَن حَبيبِ وَزِيال

وَبِعادٌ عَن حَبيبِ وَزِيال

Every day brings you parting and departure,

Each day for you is clear and endurable

And distance from a beloved, and separation;

And distance from a beloved and friend

وَوُقوفٌ في مَغانٍ دُرَّسٍ

وَوُقوفٌ في مَغانٍ دُرَّسٍ

بانَ أَهلوها وَأَطلالٍ خَوال

بانَ أَهلوها وَأَطلالٍ خَوال

And standing amid effaced dwelling places,

And standing in inhabited and flourishing places

Whose inhabitants have departed, and amid deserted ruins.

Whose people have left and which are now empty ruins

ما لِلَيلاتٍ تَقَضَّت بِالحِمى

ما لِلَيلاتٍ تَقَضَّت بِالحِمى

مُقمِراتٍ سَبَقَت تِلكَ اللَيال

مُقمِراتٍ سَبَقَت تِلكَ اللَيال

What of the nights that passed in the protected pasture,

What happened to those nights that passed with feverish longing

Moonlit, preceding those nights?

Brilliant, preceded by those nights

قَصُرَت أَمسِ مَعَ الوَصلِ لَنا

قَصُرَت أَمسِ مَعَ الوَصلِ لَنا

وَهِيَ اليَومَ مَعَ الهَجرِ طِوال

وَهِيَ اليَومَ مَعَ الهَجرِ طِوال

Yesterday, in union, they were short for us;

Yesterday was short with union between us

And today, in estrangement, they are long.

While today with separation is long

حَيثُ حيرانُ الغَضا لي جيرَةٌ

حَيثُ حيرانُ الغَضا لي جيرَةٌ

وَالنَوى ما خَطَرَت مِنّا بِبال

وَالنَوى ما خَطَرَت مِنّا بِبال

Where the calves among the ghada trees were my neighbors,

Where the young, tender branches are neighbors to me

And separation never crossed our minds.

And the intentions never occurred to us
