وَلَقَد مَدَحتُكُمُ عَلى جَهلٍ بِكُم

وَلَقَد مَدَحتُكُمُ عَلى جَهلٍ بِكُم

وَظَنَنتُ فيكُم لِلصَنيعَةِ مَوضِعاً

وَظَنَنتُ فيكُم لِلصَنيعَةِ مَوضِعاً

And indeed I praised you without knowing you,

I praised you in ignorance of your true selves,

And thought you worthy recipients of kindness.

Thinking there was still nobility in you.

وَرَجَعتُ بَعدَ الإِختِبارِ أَذُمُّكُم

وَرَجَعتُ بَعدَ الإِختِبارِ أَذُمُّكُم

فَأَضَعتُ في الحالَينِ عُمري أَجمَعا

فَأَضَعتُ في الحالَينِ عُمري أَجمَعا

And after testing you, I turned to reviling you;

But having tested you, I find you utterly vile,

So in both cases I wasted my entire life.

Wasting my life's span on the likes of you.
