هَجَرَabandoned العَفيفُAl-Afif أَخاًa brother لَهُof his
هَجَرَ العَفيفُ أَخاً لَهُ
فيin الوَدِّaffection مِنfrom أُمٍّa mother بَزورِprolific
في الوَدِّ مِن أُمٍّ بَزورِ
Al-Afif abandoned a brother of his
in affection, born of a prolific mother.
تَرَكَhe abandoned الزِيارَةَvisiting وَهوَthough he يَعknows (beginning)
تَرَكَ الزِيارَةَ وَهوَ يَع
لَمُknows (completion) قَدرَهاits worth عِندَto المَزورِthe one visited
لَمُ قَدرَها عِندَ المَزورِ
He gave up visiting, though he
knows its worth to the one visited.
أَعدَتهُinfected him with سوءَbadness الطَبعِof character صُحcompanionship (beginning)
أَعدَتهُ سوءَ الطَبعِ صُح
بَتُهُhis companionship (completion) لِعَقرَبِwith the scorpion of شَهرَزورِShahrazur
بَتُهُ لِعَقرَبِ شَهرَزورِ
He was infected with bad character by his
companionship with the scorpion of Shahrazur.
فَغَسَلتُso I washed مِنهُof him يَدَيَّmy two hands غَسلَas the washing of الthe
فَغَسَلتُ مِنهُ يَدَيَّ غَسلَ ال
كَفِّpalm مِنof لَحمِflesh الجَزورِthe slaughtered camel
كَفِّ مِن لَحمِ الجَزورِ
So I washed my hands of him, as one washes the
palm clean of camel flesh.
وَعَلِمتُand I knew أَنّيthat I كُنتُhad been مُعclinging (beginning)
وَعَلِمتُ أَنّي كُنتُ مُع
تَلِقاًclinging (completion) بِوَدٍّto an affection مِنهُfrom him زورِfalse
تَلِقاً بِوَدٍّ مِنهُ زورِ
And I knew that I had been
clinging to a false affection from him.
