قَوّادَةٌ فارِهَةٌ
لَطيفَةُsubtle التَوَصُّلِthe attainment of one's aims
لَطيفَةُ التَوَصُّلِ
A consummate procuress,
An accomplished procuress,
subtle whenever she contrives,
Subtle in her methods,
تَهويshe swoops إِلىtoward أَغراضِهاher aims
تَهوي إِلى أَغراضِها
مِثلَlike هَوِيِّthe downward plunge الأَجدَلِthe falcon
مِثلَ هَوِيِّ الأَجدَلِ
she swoops upon her aims
She swoops toward her aims
like a goshawk plunging down.
Like a falcon's plunge.
لَوif شَهِدَتshe had witnessed صِفّينَSiffin أَوor
لَو شَهِدَت صِفّينَ أَو
وَقعَةَthe battle يَومِthe day الجَمَلِthe Camel
وَقعَةَ يَومِ الجَمَلِ
Had she witnessed Siffin, or
Had she witnessed Siffin or
the battle on the Day of the Camel,
The battle of the Day of the Camel,
تَوَصَّلَتshe would have contrived فيin الصُلحِthe reconciliation ماlinking particle with 'between'
تَوَصَّلَت في الصُلحِ ما
بَينَbetween اِبنِthe son of هِندٍHind وَعَليand Ali
بَينَ اِبنِ هِندٍ وَعَلي
she would have contrived a reconciliation
She would have contrived peace
between Hind’s son and Ali,
Between Hind's son and Ali,
وَأَصبَحَتand would have been عائِشَةٌAisha
وَأَصبَحَت عائِشَةٌ
عَنaway from حَربِهِfighting him بِمَعزِلِat a remove
عَن حَربِهِ بِمَعزِلِ
and Aisha would then have been
