When the heart saw the terrors of time and what
When the heart saw the calamities of time and found
relief there is in despair after hardship, it grew free of care.
No respite in despair after tribulation, it complained

وليس أوَّلُ فَحْلِ أثْقَلُوا فَرَغَا
My complaint brought me nothing but humiliation and hardship;
My lamentations availed naught save abasement and hardship,
nor is it the first male camel they overburdened, and so it bellowed.
Yet the first stallion bore not so heavy a load.
