قالوا لِيَ اصْبِرْ لفادِح الأحْزانِ

قالوا لِيَ اصْبِرْ لفادِح الأحْزانِ

فالحُزْنُ وما يَسُرُّ كلٌّ فَانِي

فالحُزْنُ وما يَسُرُّ كلٌّ فَانِي

They said to me, “Be patient under grievous sorrows,

They told me: "Be patient with the deepest sorrows,

for sorrow and whatever brings joy are all fleeting.

For sorrow and what brings joy are both fleeting,

فارْقُبْ فَرَجاً فقُلتُ إنِّيَ أخْشَى

فارْقُبْ فَرَجاً فقُلتُ إنِّيَ أخْشَى

يأْتي الفَرَجُ إليَّ لا يلْقانِي

يأْتي الفَرَجُ إليَّ لا يلْقانِي

So await relief.” I said, “I fear

Keep watch for relief," but I said: "I fear

relief will come to me and not find me.”

Relief may come when it no longer finds me."
