أمَوْلايَO my lord كمhow many منof دُعاءٍan appeal إلىto
أمَوْلايَ كم من دُعاءٍ إلى
نَداكَyour bounty دعاءَthe appeal of مُلِحٍone who insists مُلِظِّone who persists
نَداكَ دعاءَ مُلِحٍ مُلِظِّ
O my lord, how many appeals I have made to
How much imploring to You I called,
Your bounty, pleading insistently and importunately!
An insistent imploring, wearisome;
تَخِذْتُكI took you كَهْفاًas a refuge لِمَاfor what أرْتجِيI hope for
تَخِذْتُك كَهْفاً لِمَا أرْتجِي
فماso not نِلْتُI gained منكfrom you سوىexcept يومِthe day of حَظِّيmy fortune
فما نِلْتُ منك سوى يومِ حَظِّي
I took you as a refuge for what I hope for,
I took You as a refuge for my trembling,
Yet I gained nothing from you but my day of fortune.
Yet from You I obtained but one day's share.
