    No hems of Ahmad’s shadow were dragged

    upon the earth—an honor, as they have said.

    This is a marvel—oh, what a marvel!

    Yet all people have rested at midday in his shade.

    وبهذا ما أنْجَبتْ سَوْداءُ

    A night bore a noble child, having carried him;

    and no dark night has borne such a one.

    ليس فيها لَغْوٌ ولا شَحْناءُ

    Every spot where he alighted is Paradise;

    there is no idle talk there, nor rancor.

    ن لذا كان نَوْمُه الإغْفاءُ

    And the dwellers in the Gardens do not sleep;

    thus his sleep was but a light doze.

    His heart is awake, though his eyelids slumber,

    and the prayer niches of his brows are Quba.

    لا تَمَطٍ له ولا ثَوْباءُ

    His mouth never opened save for what was right;

    he neither stretched nor yawned.
