تنازَع فيه الشوقَ قلبي وناظرِي

تنازَع فيه الشوقَ قلبي وناظرِي

فأثَّر فيه الطَّرْفُ والقلبُ ناصِبُ

فأثَّر فيه الطَّرْفُ والقلبُ ناصِبُ

My heart and my eye vied in longing for him.

My longing heart and eyes contested over it

So the gaze left its mark on him, while the heart was weary.

So my glances and heart left their imprints on it

وتنْظُره من قلبيَ الصَّبِّ أعْيُنٌ

وتنْظُره من قلبيَ الصَّبِّ أعْيُنٌ

عليها لِمَحْنِيِّ الضُّلوعِ حَواجِبُ

عليها لِمَحْنِيِّ الضُّلوعِ حَواجِبُ

And eyes from my lovesick heart behold him;

And from my patient heart eyes gaze upon it

Above them are brows formed by the curved ribs.

With eyebrows like drawn swords guarding over them
