ظَنَنْتُI thought الصَّباthe east wind لَمَّاwhen علىover النهرِthe river قدalready جَرَتْit flowed

وعَكْسُ ذُكاءٍ لاح فيه لِمُرْتَقِبْ
I took the east wind, when it had swept over the river,
I thought the morning breeze, when it flowed along the river,
And Dhukāʾ’s—the sun’s—reflection appeared in it to a watcher,
And the reflection of a brilliance flashed for the onlooker,
شِباكاًnets بهاthrough them صارbecame النَّسيمthe breeze غَزالةًa gazelle
شِباكاً بها صار النَّسيم غَزالةً
ألَسْتَare you not تَراهاyou see her دائماًalways فيهin it تضْطَرِبْshe quivers
ألَسْتَ تَراها دائماً فيه تضْطَرِبْ
For nets through which the breeze became a gazelle;
Was a net, by which the zephyr turned into a gazelle,
Do you not see her always quivering in it?
Don't you see it always quivering in it out of anxiety?
