كيفhow سُلُوِّيmy release from love إذاwhen تبدَّىappears
كيف سُلُوِّي إذا تبدَّى
بوَجْهِupon the face of مَعْشوقيَmy beloved العِذارُthe down along the cheeks
بوَجْهِ مَعْشوقيَ العِذارُ
How can I cease to love, when there appears
How can I console myself when there appears
Upon my beloved’s face the down along his cheeks,
The face of my beloved, so very fair?
والحُسْنُand beauty فيin وَجْنتيْهِhis two cheeks غَضٌّfresh
والحُسْنُ في وَجْنتيْهِ غَضٌّ
ماas long as اخْتلَفalternate الليلُthe night والنهارُand the day
ما اخْتلَف الليلُ والنهارُ
And beauty in his cheeks is fresh
In his cheeks still so fresh is the blossom
As long as night and day alternate?
Whether it be the night or the morning’s air
