By your life, the Chosen One’s sandal—its blessings

are witnessed by every person possessed of reason.

Were the reins of my own actions within my power,

I would make my eyelid its likeness—a likeness without peer.

And the skin of my face would lie over its leather,

guarding it from dust arising from soil and sand.

From the face’s twin brocades I would cut a protective covering,

to be spread over it, fitted exactly—sandal for sandal.
