شُجاعٌ إذا قام في مَعْرَكٍ

شُجاعٌ إذا قام في مَعْرَكٍ

يزِيدُ اشْتعالاً لَدَيْه العِراكُ

يزِيدُ اشْتعالاً لَدَيْه العِراكُ

Brave is he when he stands on a battlefield;

When a brave man enters into battle

the fighting burns more fiercely in his presence.

The fighting grows more intense around him

فكم دَارِعٍ صادَه في الوغَى

فكم دَارِعٍ صادَه في الوغَى

كأن الدُّرُوعَ عليه شِباكُ

كأن الدُّرُوعَ عليه شِباكُ

For many an armored warrior has he caught in the fray,

So many armored men he encounters in the fray

as though the coats of armor upon him were nets.

As though their shields are but fishing nets to him
