ومُباحثٍ في العِلْمِ من نَفَرٍ

ومُباحثٍ في العِلْمِ من نَفَرٍ

لا يُدْرِكون مَباحِثَ النَّظَرِ

لا يُدْرِكون مَباحِثَ النَّظَرِ

And many a disputant in learning, from a group

Discussing sciences, a group

who do not grasp the questions of rational inquiry—

Who cannot grasp theoretical discourse -

أعْرَضْتُ عنه كأنه عَلَمٌ

أعْرَضْتُ عنه كأنه عَلَمٌ

وتركْتُه بمَباحِثِ البَقَرِ

وتركْتُه بمَباحِثِ البَقَرِ

I turned away from him as though he were a landmark,

I turned from them as if it were a banner

and left him with the questions of cattle.

And left it to the discussions of cattle
