1. بغى على لئيم دون سابقة

    تدعوه غير فضول الجهل والجاه

    A vile man wronged me, without any prior provocation

    To spur him, save excesses of ignorance and rank.

  2. فلم ألمه سوى أن قلت من جزع

    الموعد الحشر والقاضي هو الله

    I reproached him only by saying in anguish:

    “The appointed meeting is the Resurrection, and the judge is God.”
