    O rider of the stout-cheeked she-camel, wrapped

in the robe of darkness, like a star that gleamed on the horizon,

who heads for Tayba before the caravan crowds together, to

quench heartache or slake the thirst of burning anguish,

be my companion, so I may make my way toward her in haste,

either on the expanse of my cheek or on my pupils.

May you revive, through the generosity you bestow,

my soul, and save whatever lingering life you find.

And if you arrive, say: “I left behind one held captive

by longing, who will come to you if time stretches on and he survives.”
