But the world is only a mirage on a level plain,

The life of this world is but a mirage,

And deceptive lightning, and intruding spells of drowsiness.

An illusion flashing like lightning,

فلا تأسين منها على فائتٍ مضى

فلا تأسين منها على فائتٍ مضى

ولا تفرحن بما هو آتِ

ولا تفرحن بما هو آتِ

So do not grieve over anything of it that is lost and gone,

So grieve not for what is past and gone,

Nor rejoice in what is to come.

Nor rejoice at what is yet to come.
