To the Creator of all beings I turned my face,

nor was it ever turned toward any but the Beneficent.

And I stood at His door, a humble servant,

for God is more merciful to me and more compassionate.

And I sought refuge through Taha's standing, that I might be shielded

from Saqar's blaze, and be granted Firdaws.

For how many a strayer He has guided, restrained, and gifted,

and made him follow, granted him victory, and honored him.

And how many an eye He has healed, sustained, and enriched,

and sent it forth, put it to work, and brought it to rest.

He is the hoped-for succor, and He suffices me,

whenever time makes strange what once it knew.
