    The Moses of the eyes arose with signs,

    When he saw magic coursing through the glances.

    And the cheek claimed delicacy in pleas,

    For which the cheek-down brought clear proofs.

    And the temple-lock recited a verse, so we became

    Bowing and prostrate toward the cheeks.

    And the beauty spot's proofs grew stronger when

    It silenced both cheeks with its good deeds.

    And may my soul ransom a prophet of beauty: to us came

    His two eyes with the greatest miracles.

    He sent his glance to the hearts, and they submitted,

    For the eyelids' claims lie in moments of languor.

    بدر أفْقٍ وَرِيم إنْسِ فَلاَةِ

    A bān-tree branch, and a blossom of beauty's garden;

    A full moon of the horizon, and a human gazelle of the wilderness;

    Slender-waisted, heavy-hipped, dark-lipped,

    Oath-breaking in his gaze, roguish in his movements.

    فَسَقَتْه العُيُون بِالعَبَرَاتِ

    Resolve fulfilled its promise, then blazed;

    So the eyes watered it with tears.
