أنِسَfound comfort القَلْبُthe heart بِظَبْيٍin a gazelle نَفَرَاfled
أنِسَ القَلْبُ بِظَبْيٍ نَفَرَا
عَنْهُfrom it كَالمَذْعُورْlike one terrified
عَنْهُ كَالمَذْعُورْ
The heart found comfort in a gazelle that fled
My heart was charmed by a gazelle who fled
From it like one terrified.
Like one in fright.
نَسَخَdispelled الدّيْجُورَthe deep darkness لَمَّاwhen سَفَرَاunveiled
نَسَخَ الدّيْجُورَ لَمَّا سَفَرَا
عَنْfrom مُحَيَّاthe face النُّورْthe light
عَنْ مُحَيَّا النُّورْ
He dispelled the darkness when he unveiled
The ringdove sang when she departed
The face of light.
From the rose's fair sight.
صالcharged لَيْثاًlike a lion وتَجَلَّىand appeared قَمَراlike a moon
صال لَيْثاً وتَجَلَّى قَمَرا
وانْثَنَىand swayed خَيْزُورْa supple cane
وانْثَنَى خَيْزُورْ
He charged like a lion and shone forth like a moon,
A lion appeared, the moon shone clear,
And swayed like a supple cane.
And the oleander bent double in fear.
