يا أرحم الراحمين العفو عن وجل

لم يمتثل ما به مولاه قد أمرا

O most merciful of the merciful, pardon a fearful one

O Most Merciful of the merciful, forgive the servant

who did not obey what his Lord had commanded.

Who did not obey what his Master commanded

إن لم يكن منك عفو يا كريم فما

إن لم يكن منك عفو يا كريم فما

حال امرئ لم يطع وردا ولا صدرا

حال امرئ لم يطع وردا ولا صدرا

If no pardon comes from You, O Generous One, then what

If there is no forgiveness from You, O Generous One, then what

is the plight of one who obeyed neither in coming nor in going?

Is the state of one who did not obey or accept advice

اضله غيه عن رشده فلذا

اضله غيه عن رشده فلذا

أمسى حزينا كئيبا خائفا حذرا

أمسى حزينا كئيبا خائفا حذرا

His waywardness led him astray from right guidance, and so

Lost and misguided from righteousness, thus

he became sorrowful, dejected, fearful, and wary,

He became sad, gloomy, fearful and cautious

مسترسل الدمع مما قد سعى وجنى

مسترسل الدمع مما قد سعى وجنى

موزع القلب مما قد جرى وطرى

موزع القلب مما قد جرى وطرى

his tears streaming over what he strove for and reaped,

With flowing tears for what he strove for and reaped

his heart torn by what happened and arose.

A heart torn by what has passed and happened

دعاك معترفا بالذنب معتذرا

دعاك معترفا بالذنب معتذرا

وهل يعاقب عبد جاء معتذرا

وهل يعاقب عبد جاء معتذرا

He called upon You, confessing his sin and apologizing.

He calls upon You confessing his sin, apologizing

And would a servant who came apologizing be punished?

Is a servant who came apologizing ever punished?

فجد بعفوك بالذنب معتذرا

فجد بعفوك بالذنب معتذرا

وهل يعاقب عبد جاء معتذرا

وهل يعاقب عبد جاء معتذرا

So grant Your pardon to one apologizing for his sin.

So be generous with Your forgiveness for one apologizing for his sin

And would a servant who came apologizing be punished?

Is a servant who came apologizing ever punished?

فجد بعفوك يا ذا الجود عند فقد

فجد بعفوك يا ذا الجود عند فقد

وافاك يا ذا النوال الجم مفتقرا

وافاك يا ذا النوال الجم مفتقرا

So grant Your pardon, O Possessor of bounty, in a time of want;

So be generous in Your pardon, O Most Generous, when

he has come to You, O Possessor of abundant gifts, in need.

The destitute came to You, O Giver of abundant bounty

فالعفو أليق بالمولى لقد رته

فالعفو أليق بالمولى لقد رته

ما أحسن العفو ممن عز واقتدرا

ما أحسن العفو ممن عز واقتدرا

For pardon better befits the Lord, [apparently: because of His power].

For forgiveness is most befitting of the Master, and He

How beautiful is pardon from one mighty and powerful!

How excellent is forgiveness from the Almighty and Most Capable

ويا رب يا قيوم يا حي نجنيمن

ويا رب يا قيوم يا حي نجنيمن

النار وأعظم في الجنان لي الأجرا

النار وأعظم في الجنان لي الأجرا

And O Lord, O Ever-Sustaining One, O Ever-Living One, save me from

And O Lord, O Eternal, O Ever-living, save me

the Fire, and magnify my reward in the Gardens.

From the fire and grant me the greatest reward in Paradise

ويا رب يا الله كن لي ولا تعن

ويا رب يا الله كن لي ولا تعن

علي ظلوما أضر المكر والغدرا

علي ظلوما أضر المكر والغدرا

And O Lord, O God, stand by me, and do not help

And O Lord, O God, be kind to me and do not be

against me a wrongdoer most harmful in scheming and treachery.

Unjustly harsh, scheming and treacherous towards me

ويا رب سامح والدي وتب على

ويا رب سامح والدي وتب على

عبيدك وارحم ذلتي واكشف الضرا

عبيدك وارحم ذلتي واكشف الضرا

And O Lord, forgive my parents, and turn in mercy toward

And O Lord, forgive my parents and turn

Your servants; have mercy on my lowliness, and remove affliction.

In mercy to Your servants, and relieve my distress and grief

ويا رب كن للمسلمين وجازهم

ويا رب كن للمسلمين وجازهم

بعفوك وادفع عنهم الإثم والأسرا

بعفوك وادفع عنهم الإثم والأسرا

And O Lord, stand by the Muslims, and reward them

And O Lord, be with the Muslims and reward them

with Your pardon, and ward off from them sin and captivity.

With Your pardon, and protect them from sin and captivity

سألتك بالهادي أجب دعوتي فقد

سألتك بالهادي أجب دعوتي فقد

دعوتك مضطرا وجئتك معترا

دعوتك مضطرا وجئتك معترا

I have asked You by the Guide: answer my prayer, for indeed

I asked You by the Guide, so answer my prayer, for I

I have called upon You in distress and come to You as a needy supplicant.

Called upon You distressed and came to You apologizing

وصل على المختار ما أعلق الندى

وصل على المختار ما أعلق الندى

وما حيعل الداعي وما كررا الذكرى

وما حيعل الداعي وما كررا الذكرى

And bless the Chosen One as long as dew clings [wording uncertain],

And send blessings upon the Chosen One, for as long as

and as long as the caller cries 'Hasten to prayer,' and repeats the remembrance.

The dew falls, and the caller calls, and memories are repeated

ووال على الأصحاب أزكى تحية

ووال على الأصحاب أزكى تحية

تدوم دوما يعجز العدو الحصرا

تدوم دوما يعجز العدو الحصرا

And keep sending the purest greeting upon the Companions,

And send peace upon his Companions, the most virtuous greeting

lasting forever, defying counting and reckoning [probable reading].

That lasts forever, beyond the enemy's ability to count
