وَاخْتَفَىand hid فيamong الوَرَقْthe leaves
Light grew bashful before the splendor of daybreak
Light grew bashful before dawn’s radiance
and hid among the leaves,
And hid among the leaves,
مُذْsince تَجَلَّتْappeared غَزَالَةgazelle (the sun) الأفُقِthe horizon
فِيin شَقيقanemone-red الشفَقْthe twilight
when the gazelle of the horizon unveiled herself
Since the horizon’s gazelle appeared
within twilight’s crimson anemone bloom,
In the anemone-red of twilight;
وَجَرَتْand sped شُهْبmeteors أنجمِstars الغَسَقِthe dusk
فِيin مَجَالِarena السَّبَقthe race
and the shooting stars of dusk raced
And the meteors of dusk’s stars sped
across the field of competition.
In the arena of the race.
