    المُخْفِيَاتِ مِنَ الحَيَاءِ جَمَالاَ

    I would give my life for the full moons who display perfection,

    who conceal their beauty out of modesty;

    المُرْهِفَاتِ جُفُونَهُنَّ نِصَالاَ

    whose figures sway like spear-shafts,

    who sharpen their eyelids into blades;

    الرَّاشِقَاتِ عُيُونَهُنَّ نِبَالاَ

    who display their breasts as spearheads,

    who shoot their eyes as arrows;

    المُهْلِكَاتِ بِتِيهِهِنَّ دَلاَلاَ

    who lovingly give life through their companionship,

    who coyly bring death through their haughtiness;

    المُطْلِعَاتِ مِنَ الجَبِينِ هِلاَلاَ

    who let fall darkness from their hair,

    who raise a crescent moon from the brow;

    who reveal delicate charms from curtained chambers,

    who bring ruin to hearts.

    وَيَتِهْنَ غِزْلاَنًا نَفَرْنَ دَلاَلاَ

    They sway like boughs, unveiled as crescent moons,

    and strut like gazelles, shying away in coquetry;

    and gleam as moons in a night of tresses,

    amid which love leads us ever further astray—

    each a smiling beauty with a mouth that holds

    thick white honey, its sweetness mingling with red wine.

    She gazes and smiles, revealing cool white teeth and dusky lips,

    and so bewilders poets and spinners of love verse.
