صُنْ فُؤَادِي فَهْوَ يَا بَدْرُ مَعَكْ

صُنْ فُؤَادِي فَهْوَ يَا بَدْرُ مَعَكْ

وَارْعَ فِيهِ صُنْعَ مَوْلًى صَنَعَكْ

وَارْعَ فِيهِ صُنْعَ مَوْلًى صَنَعَكْ

Guard my heart, for it is with you, O full moon.

Guard my heart, for it is with you, O full moon

And cherish in it the handiwork of the Lord who made you.

And tend to it with the care of He who created you

وَاحْفَظِ العَهْدَ وَلاَ تَجْزِمْ بِمَا

وَاحْفَظِ العَهْدَ وَلاَ تَجْزِمْ بِمَا

يَقْتَضِي خَفْضَ مُحِبٍّ رَفَعَكْ

يَقْتَضِي خَفْضَ مُحِبٍّ رَفَعَكْ

And keep the pledge, and do not resolve upon what

And keep the pact, and do not be hasty with

would bring low a lover who exalted you.

What requires the humility of a lover, your loftiness

وَصِلِ المُضْنَى الَّذِي لَوْ قُطِعَتْ

وَصِلِ المُضْنَى الَّذِي لَوْ قُطِعَتْ

بِالْجَفَا أوْصَالُهُ مَا قَطَعَكْ

بِالْجَفَا أوْصَالُهُ مَا قَطَعَكْ

And grant union to the languishing one who, even if torn apart

And join together the affection which, if

limb by limb through estrangement, would not sever ties with you.

Cut off with aloofness, would not have cut you off

يَا غزَالاً صَدَّ لما زُرْتُهُ

يَا غزَالاً صَدَّ لما زُرْتُهُ

أنَا بِاللَّهِ وَبِالشَّرْعِ مَعَكْ

أنَا بِاللَّهِ وَبِالشَّرْعِ مَعَكْ

O gazelle who turned away when I visited him,

O gazelle who turned away when I visited him

I am with you, by God and by the sacred law.

I am, by Allah and by sacred law, with you

لاَ تُخَرَبْ بَيْتَ قَلْبِي إنَّهُ

لاَ تُخَرَبْ بَيْتَ قَلْبِي إنَّهُ

بَيْتُكَ الرَّحْبُ الَّذِي قَدْ وَسِعَكْ

بَيْتُكَ الرَّحْبُ الَّذِي قَدْ وَسِعَكْ

Do not destroy the house of my heart, for it is

Do not destroy the home of my heart, it

your spacious house, which has made room for you.

Is your spacious abode that has accommodated you

وَإذَا مَا شِئْتَ أنْ أقْضِي أسًى

وَإذَا مَا شِئْتَ أنْ أقْضِي أسًى

فَاقْضِ مَا شِئْتَ تَجِدْنِي تَبَعَكْ

فَاقْضِ مَا شِئْتَ تَجِدْنِي تَبَعَكْ

And if you wish me to die of sorrow,

And if you wish that I fulfill a sorrow

then decree whatever you wish; you will find me your follower.

Then fulfill whatever you wish, you will find me following you

وَعَذُوِلي فِيكَ مَا أطْمَعَهُ

وَعَذُوِلي فِيكَ مَا أطْمَعَهُ

قُلْتُ سِرْ بِاللَّهِ وَاكْفُفْ طَمَعَكْ

قُلْتُ سِرْ بِاللَّهِ وَاكْفُفْ طَمَعَكْ

And my reproacher over you—how hopeful he is!

And my intimacy with you, which did not satisfy it

I said, 'Be off, for God's sake, and curb your hopes!'

I said: Go in peace and restrain your greed

قَالَ دَعْ ذَا وَانْتَقِلْ نَادَيْتُ لاَ

قَالَ دَعْ ذَا وَانْتَقِلْ نَادَيْتُ لاَ

سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ قَدْ سَمِعَكْ

سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ قَدْ سَمِعَكْ

He said, 'Leave this and move on!' I cried, 'Never

He said: Leave this and move on, I called: No

may God listen to whoever has listened to you!'

Allah has not heard, for He who created you has heard

لَسْتَ مِنِّي لاَ وَلاَ مِنْكَ أنَا

لَسْتَ مِنِّي لاَ وَلاَ مِنْكَ أنَا

فَانْصِرِفْ عَنِّي وَصَرِّفْ خُدَعَكْ

فَانْصِرِفْ عَنِّي وَصَرِّفْ خُدَعَكْ

You are not of me—no—nor am I of you.

You are not of me, no, and I am not of you

So turn away from me, and turn your tricks elsewhere.

So turn away from me and turn your tricks

أنْتَ فَجُّ الرُّوحِ وَالجِسْمِ فَلاَ

أنْتَ فَجُّ الرُّوحِ وَالجِسْمِ فَلاَ

جَمَعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ قَدْ جَمَعَكْ

جَمَعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ قَدْ جَمَعَكْ

You are crude in soul and body; so never

You are foul in spirit and body, so

may God grant unity to whoever put you together!

Allah will not join those whom He has joined you
