وَحَمَّامٍand a bathhouse دَخَلْنَاهَاwe entered it فَخِلْنَاand we fancied
وَحَمَّامٍ دَخَلْنَاهَا فَخِلْنَا
بِهَاwithin it بدراًa full moon عَلَىupon غُصْنٍa bough نَضِيرِverdant
بِهَا بدراً عَلَى غُصْنٍ نَضِيرِ
And we entered a bathhouse and fancied
And we entered a dove-cote and saw there
within it a full moon upon a verdant bough.
A full moon hung on a slender branch.
فَقُلْتُso I said وَقَدْand indeed عجبتُI was astonished لِمَاat what دَهَانِيbefell me
فَقُلْتُ وَقَدْ عجبتُ لِمَا دَهَانِي
أحُورُare the houris الخُلْدِeternal Paradise فيin نَارِthe fire of السَّعِيرِthe Blaze
أحُورُ الخُلْدِ في نَارِ السَّعِيرِ
So I said, astonished at what had befallen me:
I said —for I was pierced by the sight—
“Are the houris of Paradise in the blazing fire?”
"This is beauty's self in the burning fire."
