وَعَشِيَّةٍand one evening مَاnot زلْتُI ceased أرقبُI watch شَمْسَهَاits sun
وَعَشِيَّةٍ مَا زلْتُ أرقبُ شَمْسَهَا
حَتَّىuntil تَوَارَىbecame hidden حسنُهَاits beauty بِحِجَابِbehind a veil
حَتَّى تَوَارَى حسنُهَا بِحِجَابِ
And one evening, I kept watching its sun,
In the evening I kept gazing at her sun
Until its beauty vanished behind a veil,
Until her beauty was veiled in its shroud
كَخَرِيدَةٍlike a maiden زَوَتِshe drew aside القِنَاعَthe veil فَرَاعَهَاthen startled her
كَخَرِيدَةٍ زَوَتِ القِنَاعَ فَرَاعَهَا
وَاشٍa tale-bearer فَغَطَّتْso she covered وَجْهَهَاher face بِنِقَابِwith a face-veil
وَاشٍ فَغَطَّتْ وَجْهَهَا بِنِقَابِ
Like a maiden who drew her veil aside, then was startled
Like a bride who donned her veil and it terrified her
By a tale-bearer, so she covered her face with a face-veil.
So she covered her face with her veil
