وَيَوْمِand a day of أنْسٍdelight كَسَاهُclothed it الغَيْمُthe clouds أرْدِيَةًrobes
وَيَوْمِ أنْسٍ كَسَاهُ الغَيْمُ أرْدِيَةً
مُلَوَّنَاتٍmulticolored كَأذْنَابِlike the tails of الطَّوَاوِيسِthe peacocks
مُلَوَّنَاتٍ كَأذْنَابِ الطَّوَاوِيسِ
And many a day of delight the clouds clothed in robes,
And a day of delight, which the clouds clothed in robes,
brightly colored like peacocks’ tails.
Multicolored like the tails of peacocks;
وَالشَّمْسand the sun يَجْلُوreveals سَنَاهَاits radiance الغَيْمُthe clouds إذْwhen سُتِرَتْit was veiled
وَالشَّمْس يَجْلُو سَنَاهَا الغَيْمُ إذْ سُتِرَتْ
كَمَاjust as انْجَلَتْshone forth شَمْعَةٌa candle فِيin ثَوْبِthe robe of فَانُوسِa lantern
كَمَا انْجَلَتْ شَمْعَةٌ فِي ثَوْبِ فَانُوسِ
And the sun—the clouds reveal her radiance when she is veiled,
And the sun—the clouds reveal its radiance when it is veiled,
just as a candle shines forth within a lantern’s mantle.
Just as a candle shines forth within a lantern’s robe.
