And I am enamored of a young gazelle; between my heart and his glances

lie Abu Jahl’s torment and the war of the Banu Abs.

A king of beauty, peerless in loveliness—so I have ransomed him

with my own life, and nothing is dearer than life.

Whenever pride calls him, “O enchantment of the morning light,”

he appears, and beauty calls him, “O you who put the sun to shame!”
