وَيَوْمٍand a day هَلَّتِpoured down الأمْطَارُthe rains فِيهِduring it
وَيَوْمٍ هَلَّتِ الأمْطَارُ فِيهِ
كَمَاas هَلَّتْpoured دموعُtears العَاشِقِينَاof the lovers
كَمَا هَلَّتْ دموعُ العَاشِقِينَا
And a day when the rains poured down,
And on a day when the rains poured down,
As lovers’ tears poured down,
as the tears of lovers poured,
كَأنَّas though الأرْضَthe earth قَدْhad فَقَدَتْlost وَلِيداًa newborn
كَأنَّ الأرْضَ قَدْ فَقَدَتْ وَلِيداً
فَأبْكَتْso it made weep أعْيُنَthe eyes الآفَاقِof the horizons حِينَاfor a while
فَأبْكَتْ أعْيُنَ الآفَاقِ حِينَا
As though the earth had lost a newborn child
as though the earth had lost a newborn,
And made the eyes of the horizons weep awhile.
so it made the eyes of the horizons weep for a while.
