فَاِصطَادنيand ensnared me منهنَّfrom among them بعضُone of الرَّبرَبِthe herd of gazelles
The women appeared to us by the valley of Mina,
And one of their herd of gazelles ensnared me,
بِجمالwith beauty مُتَّشحٍcloaked بِأرديةِin the robes of الصِّباyouth
غضٍّfresh وبهجةِand the splendor of رَوْنقٍradiance لمhad not تنضُبِrun dry
With beauty cloaked in the robes of youth,
Fresh, and with radiant splendor that had not run dry.
وطلبتُand I sought منهfrom her وِصالَهunion with her فحُرِمْتُهُso I was denied it
ومضىand she departed بمهجةِwith the lifeblood of عاشقٍa lover لمwas not يُطلَبِsought
And I sought union with her, but was denied it,
And she departed with the lifeblood of an unsought lover.
وشربتُهُand I drank her in بجوارحيwith my limbs لكنّنيbut I
منof عَذْبِsweet طِيبِdelight of وِصالِهِunion with her لمdid not أشربِI drink
And I drank her in with all my limbs, yet
I never drank the sweet delight of union with her.
وسَرقتُهand I stole her منfrom بينamong منthose whom عاينتُهI beheld them
فيin الوادthe valley والرّقباءُwhile the watchers لاnot يدرونَthey know بِيof me
And I stole her from among those I beheld
In the valley, while the watchers were unaware of me.
