ـبِ خَلِيّاً وأنتَ تُلحِي عليهِ
O my friend, I see you untouched by the passion
My beloved, I see you consumed with passion’s fervor
of love, though you rail against it.
Yet you persist in pursuing it

منكَ في الحُبِّ لاِهتديتُ إليهِ
If forgetting could guide me to forget—
If but a whisper from you would guide me to my solace

I would be guided by it in love

By He who wants my heart to forget my loneliness
I could spend the evening alone, kissing his lips;

From love, into its hands

So much sickness within me it did not see
