لِيَfor me الوَلَدُthe child المحبَّبُthe beloved والتِّلادُand ancestral wealth
I wish that I may live on, and that there may remain
I wish that I and my beloved son may live on,
For me my beloved child and ancestral wealth;
And that our affection and bond will never be gone.
ولاand not أُقذىI am vexed ولاand not أُوذىI am harmed بشيءٍby anything
وأوّلُand the first خائبٍthwarted هذاthis الوِدادُthe wish
And that I be neither vexed nor harmed by anything—
That I won't be harmed, and won't do harm in any way,
Yet this wish is the first to be thwarted—
And that this love will be the first to go astray.

And that I, amid the folds of the nights,
That through the long nights, I'll have untainted grace,
Be goodness unmixed with corruption.
A purity not marred by any base disgrace.
