سِ مُطيعٌ في حبِّ مَن لا يُحبُّ
Do not blame me, for to my soul’s desire
Blame me not, for I obey my soul's desire
I am obedient, loving one who does not love.
And love whom I should not, this fate so dire

ضَ وتبديل ما تُعُوِّدُ صَعبُ
It has become my habit to love fair-skinned women,
My ways entrenched, to love the white and pale

And change habits ingrained, beyond the pale

لُcompletion of ‘reproach’ إِلىinto قلبهِhis heart وماand not لِيَfor me قلبُa heart
لُ إِلى قلبهِ وما لِيَ قلبُ
You reproach only one whom reproach reaches
You blame who's heart is hardened, cold as stone
within his heart—and I have no heart.
Mine is tender, blameless, on its own

And if there is no fault except
If loving deeply is my only sin
that my heart loves, then I have no fault.
Then blameless is my heart, blame falls not in
