Do not ask me what I see, for I

See something strange with my own eyes each day.

Every ailment is in my heart and in my body,

And yet I have no physician.

I wish they would stay far away from me—

All who were close beside me.

O my friend in prosperity, in adversity

Lend me your ear: I complain to you of calamities,

And of arrows that struck my body; and when

They did not harm me, they struck our hearts.

When I look, I see none but someone flawed,

Yet, for all that, he seeks faults in me.

And his traits are full of sins,

Yet he falsely reproaches me for sins.
